6 Things You Need To Know To Enter Rwanda

Exciting news from Rwanda!: The government of Rwanda just published 6 public announcements concerning their visa. In short, they made it very easy for everyone to enter Rwanda.

1. Buy visa at the airport
You don’t need to apply for a visa before traveling to Rwanda! Everyone can just buy a 30 day visa at the airport, starting 1 January 2018.

2. No visa required for ALL Rwandans.
All Rwandans, yes even Rwandans living abroad (diaspora) can enter Rwanda without a visa, if they have a national identity card (indangamuntu) or a Rwandan passport.

For more info on how to obtain a Rwandan id, check out this website www.migration.gov.rw or go to your local Rwandan embassy. I got my Rwandan ID in Rwanda for only €0.40.

3. Free 90 day visa for certain countries on reciprocal basis.
Citizens from the below mentioned countries, can get a FREE 90day visa for their stay in Rwanda. It is reciprocal, which means Rwandans can also get a free 90day visa when they visit these counties.

The countries are: Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Senegal, Seychelles and Sao Tome and Principe. This is in addition to the EAC countries*, DRC, Mauritius, Philippines and Singapore.

*The EAC is currently made up of six Partner States: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda

4. Foreign residents (immigrants), can use their Resident ID cards for entry.
Foreigners living and/or working in Rwanda can now travel easily in and out of Rwanda with only their resident ID card.

5. Citizens of COMESA Member States* can buy a 90 day visa upon arrival.

*The current members of COMESA are: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, D. R. Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe

6. No visa required for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports
From the following countries: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, India, Israel, Morocco and Turkey.
